About Us

Mission Statement

Supporting Literacy and Math (SLAM) was created to address the needs of our youngest school age learners (Kindergarten-Second Grade) in underserved communities who are at risk of falling behind their peers. SLAM is a community-based after school intervention program that hires professional teachers from each school with which it forms a partnership. The program provides foundational skill support using research-based reading and math and programs that promote active learning. The program was intentionally designed for small-group instruction to provide ample opportunities for students to not only strengthen their math and reading skills but to also help students continue a foster a sense of what it means to be part of a learning community.

Vision Statement

Our goal is to help close the academic gap in reading and math to our earliest learners (K-2) in under-resourced communities who are at-risk of falling behind academically.
